We work with our Teton Valley Chapter partner organizations and other local non-profits on an ongoing basis to develop and identify volunteer service projects that best support them. Service opportunities include education, conservation projects, field work, and citizen science programs. See some of our projects below.
Henry's Fork Foundation | Water Sampling
Assisted with collecting water profiles on Island Park Reservoir. Data collected from these surveys is critical for understanding and managing current and future water quality in the reservoir and in the Henry's Fork River downstream.
Teton Regional Land Trust | Sandhill Crane Survey
Volunteer monitors help support the Sandhill Crane Initiative. Surveying of pre-migratory staging crane populations throughout September. Greater Yellowstone Sandhill Crane Initiative
Friends of the Teton River | Youth Stream Sampling
Helped create the next generation of water stewards by assisting with FTR's Stream Sampling program. 5th grade students from Rendezvous Elementary School in Driggs learn how to sample for water quality and study macroinvertebrates and local riparian ecosystems.
Assisted Teton County with an important river utilization survey, to provide data to aid in developing management strategies and maintaining a healthy river habitat.
Received hands-on training from the Teton Raptor Center and IDFG to assist with rescuing ill or injured birds.
Volunteers provide classroom support to six classrooms in Teton Valley. This program provides an opportunity to learn about fish anatomy and physiology, the local watershed and water resources as part of the “Trout in the Classroom” program. The program is a partnership between Friends of the Teton River, Trout Unlimited and Idaho Fish and Game, which provides fish eggs to the classrooms.
Volunteers helped plant more than 700 native berry shrubs and cottonwoods on Tex Creek WMA. The annual planting benefits upland game and big game animals, and Tex Creek is vital winter range for mule deer, elk, and year-round habitat for sharp-tailed grouse.
Assisted IDFG with their biennial fish population survey on the Teton River. Volunteers shuttled vehicles and boat trailers to put in and take out points.
